BAAN PHAI FLOODPLAIN COMMUNITY

THAILAND

DESCRIPTION

In the Inland floodplain community, the local government were seeking the solution to protect the city by using dam along the embankment of the river which costs around 400 million bath. Not only this can’t help solve the flood problem but it worsens the whole situation because flood comes from both rain as well as river. Moreover, it normally lasts 5-7 days for flooding but the tremendous structure of the dam will last for century.

Therefore, we tried to convince them and the government that the dam isn’t the right solution. We helped them to find the way to live harmoniously with the water by adapting their lifestyle and the way they perceive flood to the better understanding, so that they can dance and bounce with the annual dynamic of water whenever it comes and goes.
