BANG KHUN THIAN

THAILAND

DESCRIPTION

This project focuses on Bang Khun Thian District, a suburban area of Bangkok with diverse land uses and an important coastal ecosystem. Rapid urban expansion and declining agricultural land, driven by infrastructure development, pose risks to environmental quality and community well-being. The project collaborates with stakeholders to guide urban growth, prevent land misuse, and protect rural and agricultural conservation areas. It promotes sustainable coexistence between urban and agricultural communities by developing community centers that enhance quality of life, support local livelihoods, and strengthen environmental preservation, while responding appropriately to climate conditions and ecological contexts.

LESSONS LEARNED

Bang Khun Thian District is a western suburban area of Bangkok. There are a variety of land uses including residential, commercial, industrial and agricultural. It is also a continuous area with the coast of the Gulf of Thailand which is important to the ecological system At present, it is found that urban areas are expanding at a rapid rate. Meanwhile, agricultural land continues to decrease. This is a result of the development of the road network system and the future rail mass transit network. In this project we work with all the stakeholders to create a planning that support the expansion of urban areas to prevent the misuse of land and the problem of encroachment into rural and agricultural conservation areas which will affect the quality of life and the environment of the city.

CO-BENEFITS ON ENVIRONMENT AND PEOPLE
